„Gold & Colours“ – Exhibition
For more than 10 years now Sonja Binde is working with the fascination of colours, shapes and contours. She treats self-coloured, thick paper with a scalpel to create new orders and stories. The bulging paper helps her therewith. Cut into stripes and put together in a completely new order, new layers of colour are created, layer by layer.Sonja Binde is also intensely affected by squares. It is the shape to implement the language of the colours in cohesion with gold.

Exhibitions from the DomagkAteliers:
Contrasting the brilliance of colours and the bright atmosphere of his usual work, Florian Lohmann now presents his artwork in a different manner. It is a dusky and mysterious spirit with a static, frozen pose, an almost existentialist appearance. Due to the large scale and being a negative of the picture, special emulsions of the film, the filtering with increases the contrast and a complete abandonment of variations, picture selection or retouching he creates a directness and authenticity which is almost atavistic in our times of the digital revolution. In the centre there is the human and his story, which is told by the detailed characteristics of the large-scale faces.

The paintings of the artist Gotlind Timmermanns take us on her quest for the magic power of colours. She works by laying the canvases flat on the floor in front of her. Her technique of applying paint has been devised by herself: During a long term process, with each single layer of paint having to dry separately, she applies the paint to the canvas – sometimes using a brush for dripping or sometimes allowing the paint to flow directly from the pot. In this way, natural shapes may evolve through the flow of the paint. Gotlind Timmermanns has no desire to recreate the actual or concrete. Her highly dynamic, emotional paintings are a very physical interaction with the medium of paint and canvas. There are no trees or skies as such to be found in her art. It is through the concentration on the dynamic relationship between horizontals and verticals, parallels and sequences that structures associated with those of plants or natural shapes may emerge. Her paintings are full of vitality and display a great, colourful depth. Gotlind Timmermanns compositions are open to poetic interpretation and succeed in drawing the viewer in. And who knows – perhaps even that legendary green will reveal itself…
